A demonstration project of eleven dwellings built to utilise solar energy has been followed by the construction of a further hundred houses. Each house has a 23 m2 solar cell system installed on the roof which supplies the whole house with electricity. Low energy equipment is used in the house to help minimise electricity requirements. This has proved to be a highly successful demonstration project that has convinced the Dutch government to take solar electricity seriously, even in a climate when there is almost more rain than sun.
