As required by the UK Data Protection Acts of 1984 and 1998, we follow strict security procedures in our storage and disclosure of any information that you have given us. In order to maintain the security of your information we may request proof of identity before we are able to disclose sensitive information to you.
All information collected on this site will be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, leased or rented to parties outside of World Habitat. What information do we collect?
We collect personal information from visitors to our website through the use of online forms and every time you email us your details. We will ask you for your name, organisation and e-mail address in order to:
- send you news and information on World Habitat activities and upcoming events in the form of an e-newsletter
- deal with your enquiries, comments or requests
- follow up a feedback form, in order to get a better picture of our visitor’s needs
If you sign up for an e-newsletter, the e-mail address you supply will only be used to send you information on World Habitat activities. If you give us your e-mail address when downloading World Habitat documents, that address will only be used to follow up that request. We retain only your email address in order to notify you of new publications and we do not sell, rent, loan, trade or lease email addresses to any third party.
We also collect additional information automatically about your visit to our website. This information includes the IP address, pages accessed, date, time and further information volunteered by you. World Habitat uses data collected from log files for internal analysis of visitor behaviour and trends, to evaluate traffic flow (e.g. busiest times of day/week) and to assess the relative popularity of different parts of the website. We use the information we collect to monitor the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors. We do not share individual data or track user behaviour after you have left our site.
The information provided to World Habitat is saved indefinitely and may be stored on one or more databases directly maintained by us.
- your language and font-size selection (for up to one year);
- information about the current browsing session (for up to one hour). For example, this enables selected publications to be kept in the basket prior to ordering.
Cookies used by World Habitat cannot be used to obtain information about your system or to add you to any mailing lists. They are used to make browsing more efficient. You may set your browser’s preferences to block the storage of cookies. If you have disabled cookies on your computer, you will be unable to order publications and access to other areas of the site may be restricted. Many people worry that cookies threaten individuals’ privacy and might affect their own computers’ functioning. While they can be used in all kinds of ways by server-based applications, they pose no risk to you as a user.
Access to your personal information
You have the right to request a copy of the personal information that World Habitat holds about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (We charge a fee for information requests.) Please address requests to the Data Protection Officer (see above).
