We are delighted to announce the two winning projects in the 2016 World Habitat Awards:
- A Roof, A Skill, A Market – Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Benin & Ghana
- More than Housing – Switzerland
These two outstanding projects have been selected from our twelve finalists as the best examples of innovative housing around the world.
A Roof, A Skill, A Market is a pan-African project which creates vaulted roofs using sun-dried mud bricks, replacing unsuitable materials often used for housing in this region. Through collaborations and knowledge exchanges, the model has been widely adopted across five countries helping to strengthen local skills and networks.
More than Housing is one of the largest and most ambitious cooperative housing programmes in Europe promoting social diversity and environmental sustainability. Adequate and affordable housing is made available for a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds with community-led management and collaboration between 50 different co-operatives.
Both projects will receive their award at the United Nations Governing Council in Kenya this May.
Congratulations to both of our winners for 2016!
