World Habitat is an established registered charity with an exciting future. We are developing an ambitious new strategy and have recently refreshed our identity with a new name and an updated mission. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who shares our values to help shape our future and the futures of people in housing need around the world.
Billions of people around the world lack a safe home due to conflict, poverty, natural disasters, and weak housing rights. World Habitat works as a catalyst to help people overcome these challenges. We find out what works, help it grow and transfer great housing ideas to where they are needed most. We do this by:
- identifying great housing ideas and best practice from around the world;
- transferring ideas and practices to places where they are needed most; and
- helping new ideas grow, so they benefit the people who need them most
We run the World Habitat Awards, carry out research and run programmes to make this happen. Currently we co-ordinate the European End Street Homelessness Campaign – a movement of thirteen European cities that have signed up to a set of principles to end street homelessness for good. We help establish community-led housing in areas of the world where it is undeveloped, including Central and Eastern Europe, and informal settlements in cities in Latin America.
We are looking for a committed person to help us develop and deliver our strategy. We would love to hear from people with experience of housing in an international context. You would be expected to attend four half-day board meetings each year held in our offices in Coalville in Leicestershire as well as an annual strategy planning day. These positions are unpaid, but expenses are reimbursed.
